Lynn Lehmann and Dennis Gärtner do not bother with frills. This does not mean they say no to ornaments. But those must be, like the central elements of the painting, as simple and percussive as possible. The duo practices their art at a professional level: graphic boxing is their main focus. Whether it’s for a series of rugs in collaboration with the Moroccan cooperative Tighlamin or for their frequent interventions on the walls of Berlin, their works must immediately grab the viewer’s attention and deliver a pair of visual punches. They do this quite well, thanks to an array of imposing shapes and striking colors that they arrange to catch the onlooker fair and square. A direct hit, and down they go.
